What FIBRATE 200MG is used for?

It is used,

  • to lower levels of bad type of cholesterol called LDL or triglycerides in the blood
  • to increase the amount of a good type of cholesterol called HDL

Tell your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to FIBRATE 200MG or any other ingredients of this medicine
  • suffer from liver or kidney disease or gallbladder disease
  • suffer from pancreatitis
  • suffer from an under active thyroid gland
  • have diabetes
  • or your family have had muscle problems
  • are alcoholic

Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • anticoagulants to thin your blood (for example, warfarin)
  • other medicines to control lipid (fat) levels in the blood (for example, drugs known as statins or Fibrate)
  • statins such as simvastatin, atorvastatin
  • ciclosporin (an immunosuppressant)
  • glitazones medicine to control Type 2 diabetes

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Swallow the medicine whole with a glass of water

If you take more FIBRATE 200MG

  • If you have taken more FIBRATE 200MG than you should, consult your doctor or go to the nearest hospital casualty department immediately

 If you forget to take FIBRATE 200MG

  • If you forget to take FIBRATE 200MG, take it as soon as you remember 
  • If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
  • Do not take two doses at the same time

If you stop taking FIBRATE 200MG

  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to stop your treatment

  • allergic reactions such as rashes, itching or red patches on the skin
  • pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas leading to stomach pain)
  • gallstones (cholelithiasis)
  • muscle pain, muscle inflammation, muscle cramps, spasms or weakness, muscle breakdown
  • hepatitis (inflammation of the liver), symptoms of which may be mild jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes), stomach pain and itching

  • stomach pain, being sick, feeling sick, diarrhoea and wind (flatulence)

  • blood clot in the lung causing chest pain and breathlessness (pulmonary embolism); leg causing pain, redness or swelling (deep vein thrombosis)
  • headache
  • reduced sex drive
  • slight increases in blood levels of substances normally excreted by the kidneys (creatinine)

  • hair loss
  • increased sensitivity to light
  • decrease in haemoglobin (oxygen carrying pigment in blood) and decrease in white blood cells
