MAXTIB LS contains Tibolone which belongs to the group of medicines called synthetic steroid hormone. Tibolone is a Hormone Replacement Therapy which is used to relieve post-menopausal symptoms and to prevent osteoporosis (fragile bones) in women. Menopause is a biological process, in which there is a marked decrease in the levels of female sex hormones. Decrease in these levels may cause symptoms such as hot face, neck and chest or osteoporosis. Tibolone is a synthetic steroid hormone which has both estrogenic and progestogenic activity. Before starting the therapy, make sure to inform your doctor if you have a premature menopause. You should not take tibolone until at least 12 months after your last menstrual bleed.

The recommended daily dose is one tablet per day. However, your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your condition. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor might recommend you have regular check-ups after starting this medicine. Regular cervical smear test and screening of breast. Check your breast regularly and visit your doctor if you notice dimpling of skin, changes in nipple or any lumps. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or having liver, kidney or uterine problems.
