What is NICOTEX 2MG?

  • NICOTEX 2MG contains nicotine which belongs to a group of medicines called nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).
  • It acts to substitute the nicotine that you normally get from cigarettes and can help you stop smoking.

What NICOTEX 2MG is used for?

  • It can be used to relieve the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal and reduce the cravings for nicotine that you get when you try to stop smoking
  • When you stop smoking, or cut down the number of cigarettes you smoke, your body misses the nicotine that you have been absorbing from the smoke. You may experience unpleasant feelings and a strong desire to smoke (“craving”)

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you,

  • are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine

  • Smoking during pregnancy causes poor health to the baby
  • NICOTEX 2MG replacement therapy may be used in pregnancy because the risk to the developing baby is less than that expected from continued smoking
  • Try to breast-feed at a time just before you take the product to ensure that the baby gets the smallest amount of NICOTEX 2MG as possible

Before you use this medicine, tell yours about any other medicines like,

  • theophylline

For Chewing Gum Tablet:

  • Chew one piece of gum when you feel the urge to smoke
  • It is important to chew the gum correctly, not like ordinary chewing-gum
  • Follow the instructions below and do not swallow the gum

Chewing technique

  • Chew one piece of gum slowly until the taste becomes strong
  • Rest between your gum and cheek
  • Chew again when taste has faded
  • Repeat this chewing routine for about 30 minutes 

How much to take

  • Most people use 8 – 12 pieces of 2mg gum a day
  • Do not use more than 1 piece of gum at a time or more than 25 pieces of 2mg gum a day
  • Remember not to drink certain drinks 15 minutes before chewing the gum
  • The gum can stick to and very rarely damage dentures or other dental work. You may prefer to use a patch or lozenge
  • After 3 months, you should try to gradually reduce the number of pieces of gum chewed each day
  • You should stop using the gum when you are only taking 1-2 pieces of gum per day

Children and adolescents (12 -18 years)

  • It should only use in children for 12 weeks. If longer is required, then talk to your doctor

 Children under 12 years should not use the gum

  • It should not be used in children, unless advised by a doctor

If you take more NICOTEX 2MG

  • If you use too much NICOTEX 2MG Tablets you may get the following symptoms feeling sick, salivation, pain in your stomach, diarrhoea, sweating, headache, dizziness, hearing disturbance or weakness. If this happens contact a doctor or hospital casualty department straight away

If you forget to take NICOTEX 2MG

  • If you forget to take NICOTEX 2MG Tablets at the usual time, take it as soon as you remember. Then go on as before. Do not use 2 tablets to make up for a missed dose

If you stop taking NICOTEX 2MG

  • Talk to your doctor before attempting to stop gradually

  • have an allergic reaction such as rash, itching or swelling of the tongue, mouth or throat
  • reduce your nicotine intake

  • poor concentration, urges to smoke (craving), night time awakening or sleep disturbance
  • increased appetite or weight gain
  • lowering of heart rate
  • feeling faint, feeling sick (nausea), headache

  • dry mouth, being sick, increase in saliva, inflammation of the mouth
  • feeling tired

STORAGE

  • Keep this medicine in a safe place out of the sight and reach of children and animals, preferably in a locked cupboard
  • Use the medicine by the date on the carton and keep it in the original pack
