SULFASALAZ 500 TABLET contains Sulfasalazine which belongs to the group of medicines called Amino salicylates. It is used to treat and manage inflammatory bowel diseases such as Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s disease, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Ulcerative Colitis is an inflammatory disease that affects only the large bowel (colon and back passage), the lining of the bowel becomes inflamed (red and swollen) and symptoms include abdominal pain and diarrhea (may have blood and mucus). Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory disease that affects any part of the digestive system from the mouth to the anus, most commonly affecting the last part of the small bowel and the first part of the large bowel, symptoms include abdominal pain and diarrhea (may be bloody). It can also be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (swelling, pain, stiffness of joints)

Your doctor might want you to take certain blood, kidney, and liver function tests during the treatment. Drink enough fluids during this treatment to avoid problems with the kidneys. Before taking SULFASALAZ 500 TABLET inform your doctor if you have porphyria (a rare blood pigment disorder), jaundice, kidney, liver, blood problems, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, history of recurring chronic infection, asthma, arthritis.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. SULFASALAZ 500 TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age. The most common side effects of taking SULFASALAZ 500 TABLET are indigestion, heartburn, nausea, dizziness, and headache. Consult your doctor if the side effects get worse.
